Me, my mate MS and my mate Menopause

Image
Two or three years ago it started, well I think it was the menopause. With most ladies a good indication will be the stopping of periods, however in my case due to my lack of mobility I was fitted with the marina coil 8 years ago, so periods were a thing of the past anyway. Last month my niece told me about a channel 4 programme that Davina McCall did called Sex, Myths and the Menopause, and said it was a must watch. Both hubby and I sat down and watched it together. In this blog post I am going to list some of the statistics, it’s frightening we still live in a society where we don’t tend to openly talk not only to our friends but to the family that we live with, although I am very lucky the Dean team have always talked about everything. It’s so important for all age groups to understand the menopause.              It is not just my mate MS but also my mate menopause, when I’m going off on one is it my personality, because of my MS...

Smart meter

Image
This morning we had our arranged visit for the installation of a smart meter. Now I realise that a lot of people are adverse to having one fitted maybe because it monitors every activity regarding fuel usage, but I cannot see that it is anywhere as intrusive as an Alexa or a mobile phone which manage to track your every movement, my poor carers get tracked by GPS by the app that my care company use, so for me a smart meter is the least of my worries.   Richard arrived nice and early at 8:30 (good job I had finished my breakfast), he wanted to get underway with his days work just in case my there were any problems and guess what, in 10 minutes BINGO! The smart meter needs to be attached to the wooden back plate, which he expected to find as that is what the electric meter should be attached to, unfortunately it wasn’t so after a quick look round the flat hubby found a piece of wood and Richard was able to drill the wood into the wall, and hey presto we were back ...

Prestwood 10k

Image
I just couldn’t not do the Prestwood 10k despite being on Hayling Island, I had no excuse especially as it was a virtual one due to the pandemic. For those of you who have known me a long time I first entered the Prestwood 10k six years ago as a wheelchair user. That was when I had my Trekanetic aka the purple bomb. The only difference this time was I didn’t have six RAF guys push me round!      On the 28 th of May I set off with hubby and my PA in the glorious sunshine, and the balloons that had been sent with my joining pack had been blown up and attached to my wheelchair. I was dressed in my race vest top which gave me the confidence to go out there and smash it. After all this was a great opportunity of seeing more of Hayling by foot, my Strava was linked to my just giving page and we pressed start as soon as we left the front door.   After traveling for one hour, hubby thought it was a good idea to stop and see how far we had gone so t...
