What a busy week

We have been living on the Island for just over two months now and it’s great to be close to my Dad, I expected of course to be living close by to my sister, her husband and nephews as well, but I was certainly not prepared for the tragic loss of my eldest sisters husband on the 10th of December. It has rocked GAL’s world and now she too has moved on to the island, and is in a wonderful care home. Last Sunday, Dad and I went for a visit to the care home, we stood outside and spoke with GAL. We only stayed half an hour for two reasons, one being Dad is 95 going on 96, and the other we had interrupted GAL’s art class. I am so pleased there is plenty to do and such a variety for her, making friends with the other eight residents. At the end of the day, GAL returns to her own personal space and is surrounded by very familiar possessions she brought with her from Langford, with her various pictures of TGL taking pride of place.     Before I knew it the alarm...

Rest in peace Snowy

Monday hubby received a phone call that was one that no one wanted to receive, our dear friend Snowy had passed away suddenly. It was nothing to do with covid but issues with his heart. Thankfully we were told that he would have not felt a thing. We first met Snowy through scouting well before my mate MS had even made herself known to me. I have spent the last two days recalling our many adventures together, thankfully that has meant a lot of laughter. Snowy always wanted to help, and when I said to him I wanted to put a team together to carry my sister (who also has MS) round the foothills of Snowdon, he of course said yes and so the “bogtrotters” were born. The event took place in July 1997, SMD was just 7 weeks old and I was breastfeeding, we did go along but stood at a distance. The team was made up of scout folk, husbands, a nephews and a niece. They trekked through bogs and swam through rivers, all ably led by Snowy.     Snowy was instrumental i...

Quick the sun has come out!

Image
As soon as hubby and I had finished our lunch yesterday the shoes were on, along with my thick poncho and scarf. The rain had finally stopped and the sun was shining brightly, we are so fortunate to live just one hundred yards from the sea front. Luckily we had watched from our patio windows that the sea defence had been repaired and therefore the path was clear.   It was great to see the sun but a little deceiving as it was still blinking cold! Although I cannot get onto the actual beach with my wheelchair I can get really close, great to see loads of people out (all socially distanced of course) especially the children as it is half term. The sea was lapping up and because the sun was so bright and the sky so clear we could see all the way over to West Wittering. After soaking up the sun we walked on a little further until my wheelchair wouldn’t let me go any further. I have to say how special this little island is one moment I am walking by the...
