Rest in peace Snowy

Monday hubby received a phone call that was one that no one wanted to receive, our dear friend Snowy had passed away suddenly. It was nothing to do with covid but issues with his heart. Thankfully we were told that he would have not felt a thing.

We first met Snowy through scouting well before my mate MS had even made herself known to me. I have spent the last two days recalling our many adventures together, thankfully that has meant a lot of laughter.

Snowy always wanted to help, and when I said to him I wanted to put a team together to carry my sister (who also has MS) round the foothills of Snowdon, he of course said yes and so the “bogtrotters” were born. The event took place in July 1997, SMD was just 7 weeks old and I was breastfeeding, we did go along but stood at a distance. The team was made up of scout folk, husbands, a nephews and a niece. They trekked through bogs and swam through rivers, all ably led by Snowy.

Snowy was instrumental in starting the Venture Scout and Ranger Guide weekend. I even remember going away to Ferny Crofts Scout campsite in the New Forest where we helped run a regional activity weekend. I feel now in 2021 the Scout Association was way ahead of its time, we ran activity bases on sexual health, racism, and diversity, and those were just the bases that Bucks were responsible for! That all happened in 1993, what a great ACC Snowy was.

Once Snowy had retired from Scouting, we remained firm friends, and he took the trip from Uxbridge over to Aylesbury on many occasions.

He really was a remarkable man and a true friend, not only did he serve the Scout Association but he also, along with his brother, ran the Rookies at Windsor lifeguards. Then of course never ready to retire he started his career at Legoland, where he was loved by kids and parents alike.

God rest your soul Snowy, you will never be forgotten xx
