Recycle, Recycle, Recycle
Well
we have all heard of location, location, location which I have now done so now
I can recycle, recycle, recycle.
Our first project was to develop the sustainable garden, which I have already written a blog about and I can now look out into the garden and see three butterflies and know it is all working to plan and at the same time I am writing this post which is all about recycling. Having eaten my lunch which included a packet of baked crisps (50% less fat and a nod to my blog post on weight, food and MS) both my PA and I have kept the empty packets and added them to our collection.
We found out that Walkers Crisps run a crisp packet recycling scheme –
walkers.co.uk/recycle and all that is needed is to add the
postcode where you live and that will tell you where your closest collection
point is eg those that live in Wendover, Buckinghamshire then the drop off
point is Wendover Junior School or Aylesbury is Broughton Junior School. For
those of us that live on Hayling Island there is a lovely lady that has turned
her home into a mini recycling centre and has her own Facebook page:
I
wanted to find a shop that was ethical about the items that it sold but
wouldn’t brake the bank. That is when I found Wey to Go,
Based in West Town, Hayling Island, they are a zero waste store. The purpose is to help customers reduce the amount of single use plastic (SUP) and buy the required amount so as to reduce food waste.
You can weigh your own empty container, fill to your required amount with your chosen produce then re-weigh at the till and pay.
They stock a wide range of items including wholefoods, coffee
beans, loose tea, eco cleaning products, personal hygiene products, gifts and most
importantly I can get chocolate Brazil nuts for my 96 year old Dad who
absolutely loves them!
Now all I needed to do was to find out what else could be recycled and where could it be collected, I wanted to ensure I could drop it off locally meaning I could roll there which I will display in picture format as it is so much easier than to write it all, after all it is 3pm on a Friday afternoon and I have had one heck of a busy week (which will form part of my next blog).
I
recommend that everyone participates in The air, home and laundry care recycling
programme which is available at terracycle.com and you can find your local drop
off point which again for ease for those living in Aylesbury is again Broughton
Junior School and on Hayling Island is 30 Selsmore Road.
With
regards to personal beauty products and toothpaste they could all be recycled
at Boots or Tesco’s but sadly currently it has been stopped due to Covid, hopefully
you won’t mind hanging onto them until such times as the recycling bins in
store are opened again.
Please
if you have any personal experience of additional recycling facilities please
share them and let’s start making a difference to the planet which we live.
