Thank you and Good Luck !!
You
may have noticed that last week there was no post on my blog, the first time
since I started in October.
Unfortunately on the 25th June my Thursday and Friday PA left
the care company to go and explore a new life down in Cornwall.
SG
first joined the care company I use in February as a Domiciliary Carer, it
wasn’t too long after that she also took on the role as my PA for two days a
week. I won’t lie I was quite nervous at the beginning because I was having to
spend so much time with someone who was so young. I had requested that the person was closer in
age to me (I felt we would have more in common). I didn’t anticipate that we
would have plenty to talk about as SG was in fact closer in age to my daughter.
My posts on my blog soon became a weekly activity and I found that I was sharing much of my life with not only the readers of this blog but with all my carers due to the fact that when my Dom Carers came in, in the evening they always wanted to know what I had done with SG that day and whilst I had my twenty minutes pressure relief they would read my blog. Sadly not only have I lost SG but also the regular carers that came in the evening, it wasn’t because I was careless, it was purely because they were all young and as things started to open back up they went back to jobs in hospitality etc. Such a shame our government don’t put a greater value on our health and social care - but don’t get me started as that is a whole different post!
Apart
from writing the posts for the blog and all my social media stuff we seemed to
fill the days really easily. The weather has not always been conducive to being
outdoors. I remember looking at my alexia and seeing a picture of a chocolate
marble cake. SG is a spontaneous person and before I knew it she was on the
phone to her mum asking if she had the correct size cake tin. The next day not
only did we have the cake tin but hubby had gone out and bought all the
ingredients, the pictures below tell the story of the day we made the cake.
SG
was a great one for going on walks and one day we even went out and met up with
not only another one of my carers but also their dogs.
I feel that if the care company knew half of what went on they would not be best impressed, but now that all the carers that were involved have left we have nothing to lose. What I do know is my safety was never compromised by anyone who looked after me and the guys remained professional at all times.
In
SG’s last week we watched my nephew progress the rockery in our little garden
and he was able to bury a Belfast sink that had been left by the previous
owners and turned it into a small pond. SG and I had to walk into town to pick
up my medication and on the way back we popped into a tourist beach shop and
bought a child’s fishing net so I could be prepared and pull out any leaves etc
that fell into my little pond!
Both
hubby and I will miss SG’s happy smiling face, nothing was ever too much
trouble. Her parting gift to us was a butterfly barn to go with our wildlife
rockery. Thoughtful to the end thank you SG for everything you have done for me
and good luck with your new life in Cornwall, you will certainly be missed.
