Finally…
After
three long years at university and starting her first job as a children’s nurse
at the start of a pandemic SMD was finally able to come to Hayling Island for a
five day holiday.
On
Friday morning SMD came off nights and jumped onto a train straight down to
Havant and by 10:30am we had picked her up from the station and were heading
home. Once home we had time for breakfast
and a quick catch-up before her body clock was screaming out “no more, I need
to sleep”.
Once
rested we went for the obligatory walk along the seafront, and had fish and
chips her holiday had really begun.
Saturday arrived and it was my Birthday, SMD still gets excited and as soon as the carers had left she came bounding through the door to a chorus of Happy Birthday to you. I had asked SMD for a couple of Lego people to go on my rockery next to the beach hut (my garden project is a whole new blog post), I opened my present to find the Dean Team Lego People. SMD explained to me that all she had needed to do was send the company photographs of us and describe our hobbies and they then make the three figures. Hubby has a spanner in his hand, SMD has a stethoscope and I am in a wheel chair. Even our hair types are correct (hubby has no hair).
I
was completely spoilt by all my family and thank them all very much. Our day was spent in West Sussex. Then a
drive back home via my Dad’s and that was the end of Saturday!
Although
the weather forecast was not supposed to be that good for the time SMD was with
us it was remarkably dry and sunny.
Sunday saw us in Southsea where we walked along the front and had some
lunch.
I can’t believe how quickly the days went by, we had such lovely chats and heard many stories from SMD about her work. We of course like millions of others watched the England v Italy match on Sunday night whilst eating a Chinese.
Before
we knew it it was SMD’s last day, we were joined by her boyfriend (JP), who came
laden with flowers, birthday cake and a present, I must admit I enjoyed being
spoilt. We had a meal and then the four of us went for a nice long walk.
Although
I didn’t want to we had to go home and say our goodbyes, lots of hugs and a few
tears (mother and daughter).
A
fantastic five days which went far too quickly. Of course SMD couldn’t even make it off Hayling before she tucked into her stick of rock.
That night before we went to
bed hubby said to me “if I didn’t know it before I know it now SMD is a beautiful
young lady inside and out”
Thank
you so much can’t wait til the next time xxx
