Bernard’s blog

Starting a Blog at the end of what was an amazing experience may seem strange but you’ll remember Julie.

Checking in at any international airport counter is a process. We have all experienced the weaving left and right to the front of the queue. The mandatory security questions, bag weighing, handing over of documents ... from behind a tall counter.

On this day The Deans’ family were flying from Perth, Western Australia to Heathrow. This is a 17 hour flight or 14,500 kms. And this was about 8 years ago.

The four of us as a family were standing to one side. The emotions were high as we were saying our goodbyes until the next time remembering another reunion of two families who have grown so very close over 23 years. What we witnessed was human kindness rarely seen in our fast paced world.

In the same wheel chair that was now proven to cover rough Aussie terrain avoiding snakes and spiders plus roar down a path and do a sweeping 360 degree turn whilst staying upright Julie was approached from behind the counter and asked respectfully “how can I help you Mrs Dean?”

A quiet conversation ensued and from the look on your face Julie we knew that with this national airline you were in great hands for your travels home.

I’ve caught the sharp end of Julie’s tongue on occasions. All in fun I should add. Over these years we have each fortnight come into each other’s lives for a brief hour or two to sit, listen, laugh and even cry with losses and joys shared across the miles.

This beautiful lady who we grew to know and love in our time in the UK back in 1996/97 just doesn’t seek attention. The opposite in fact applies. Her LOVE of life is infectious which is generously shared. For Julie LOVE is spelt TIME. And in most cases over a cuppa.

Oh go on then!!!!
