Shannon’s turn to takeover my blog

Image
When you’re born you tend to have two categories of people that immediately surround you: your family and your parents friends. As you go through your first year of life you normally make other friends, through things such as baby clubs, and babies of your Mum and Dads friends. Well in traditional Dean style I decided that normal was overrated, and at 6 months old I shared my first brand new friend with my mum, her new mate MS. Obviously being 6 months old,  mums new mate was a bit of a mystery to me. It made my adventurous mummy more sleepy, so sometimes she couldn’t get out of bed. Now in all fairness I can’t imagine baby me hating this, because I wasn’t doing much more than that anyway. So as I grew up I had this weird friend for life that came as an added extra to my mum whether we liked it or not. Now I’ll be blunt if you’d asked young Shannon on how she felt about it all, you’d get a surprisingly positive answe...

It’s all about me

I have to admit that this week has been all about me, as things start to open up, I have taken advantage of being in Wendover for my physiotherapy, and had a sneaky trip to the Adorn where I had my eyebrows waxed and my nails painted. Thank goodness for DLA, I take full advantage of the care component as this pays for my luxuries.   Yesterday we made our way up to Buckinghamshire for what was going to be a really happy day. Next was the event that I had been counting the days down for, yes it was haircut and colour day! It may seem a little strange that we travel 97miles to go to the hair dressers, but it took hubby several months when we moved to Aylesbury to find a hairdresser that had a portable sink, which meant my hair could be washed whilst I was sitting in my wheelchair. Also I have a lovely hairdresser called Nicola, I hope you agree wit...

Goneth the gantry, welcome the XY system

Image
Before we moved down to Hayling Island back in December 2020, we had to organise a gantry hoist with Hampshire county council which was installed days before we moved. It was always a temporary measure while we waited for our Disabled Facilities Grant to be approved, two weeks ago it was approved, I was so happy as the hoisting system known as an XY system is so much better, and it will allow me to be hoisted in more than one place in the bedroom. Yesterday was the day, and bang on 9:30 the guys arrived from Liftech Systems.  I was really impressed, three of them came in all masked up and kept their social distance while explaining to hubby and I what was going to happen. We even offered them a hot drink but got told “thank you very much, but we need to get on, maybe later”. Of course I saw this as an opportunity to write a blog but not having a PA on a Thursday meant hubby was chief photographer (no, the only photographer). I did hope his photography was going to...
