My first post of the year

Where do I start? So much has happened, of course the thing that is on everybody’s mind today is the lockdown that was announced by Boris (not my favourite person) yesterday!  For me I am so glad and it is not before time but how do you all feel about it?https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1BWHeEaqpDwFXbVrPk4uBBc6_lmnARufO

Its all started again with my mate MS having to deal with all the emotional crap that goes along with lockdown and the one thing I do know if the minority of people start adhering  to the rules we wouldn’t be in the state we find ourselves in now! I talked about in a previous post how immensely proud I am of our daughter and having to listen to the horror stories not only the news talks about but have it confirmed by SMD that this is in fact the reality.  When individuals use the underground and take off their masks when they are out of sight of the British Transport Police it would be great if they could be marched straight into the nearest ITU and do a shift where they are only required to role the individual patients and of course doing it without PPE ( because after all you don’t need it)!

NOW TELL ME ITS NOT REAL!

Last Saturday TV programme Casualty devoted their whole episode to life within the ED dealing with COVID and I have to say it was superbly executed. Well worth catching up on BBCiPlayer.

Nurses are being seconded to areas that they are not trained to cover, children’s nurses are becoming adult nurses because that is where they are needed.  We have gone back to regular support calls, some how sharing the experience allows a certain amount of offloading (a much needed exercise) It’s not all bad, there are of course adult patients who are not in ITU because of Covid and one to one nursing can not only be rewarding but fun.  SMD growing up with a Mum who has MS has meant she has picked up skills that really make a difference and just recently her ability to give fantastic hand massages were really appreciated in ITU!

Basically for the forthcoming months we need to look after ourselves and each other. Taking time out to check in with one another doesn’t take long and after all what else is there to do?

During lockdown 1 the theatre industry really suffered and continues to do so.  Following the  Inspiration of one person a website was created called Not on the West End, where individuals could use their skill set and sell arts and craft.  I have a particular interest as my niece setup her business called Sew Like Sarah, before lockdown Sarah was a costume maker for the theatre industry.  That skill set meant Sew Like Sarah was born, she can be found @sew.likesarah on Instagram. I was so pleased that Sarah could be of great help to my PA in Bucks by making a bespoke tablecloth for her

Mother in Romania, it went some way to comfort them both as my PA was unable to fly home for Christmas due to COVID.

Acts of kindness were also demonstrated in books written by Guy Unsworth and illustrated by Stephanie Clift, suitable for younger children and ideal to demonstrate positivity. https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=18Bn0aPdeYOzZWEgwW3HJlCwBMFbzmukM
Believe me I don’t get any commission from any of these people! I think not on the west end just demonstrates something great can come out of lockdown.
Stay safe and stay happy, let’s make the most of this xx
