Challenge 35

Since being diagnosed with MS 22 years ago I have attended the Chilterns MS Therapy Centre in Wendover, Buckinghamshire. This year is their 35th anniversary, normally the Centre would hold a huge fundraising event to celebrate but due to Covid-19 it has not been possible. So Challenge 35 was born! Members and friends of the Centre were asked if they would take on their own challenge, it was suggested that the challenge contained the number 35. I have always been involved in fundraising for the Centre so immediately I put on my thinking cap and 35 walks in 35 different places was born.

I started my challenge on the 14th of August and to date I have completed 29 of the walks and walked (well rolled) 82.5 miles, I hope to make 100 miles by the end.

The reason I decided I wanted to this challenge was because lockdown for me proved a struggle and as a very sociable person not being able to attend the Chilterns MS Therapy Centre was a nightmare, I never imagined that I would be asking for help with my mental health but fortunately the OT at the MS Centre was able to set up sessions with a qualified counsellor and help me work through my feelings. I’m not ashamed to admit I struggled. All these services were provided remotely but achieved the same amazing results had I been receiving them face to face. I cannot promote the Chilterns MS Centre enough they have been truly amazing through the lockdown period. I am going to be cheeky and share the link to my fundraising page should you wish to sponsor me.

Now that the Centre has opened back up again albeit on a very restricted basis I am going there for treatment every three weeks. After a very long six months,  three weeks ago I was able to stand for the first time, a fantastic feeling.

So for now me and my mate MS are very happy ðŸ˜ƒ
